I’ve purchased a lot of glasses frames online, from the thousands of sites with impossible-to-remember names, and the plain truth is, they’re always trash. Weird shapes, strange proportions, and made from shitty materials. The fast fashion of optometry. Cheap in every sense of the word. The moment I slid these on, I knew I was dealing a different order of magnitude. Despite my wildly disparate Rx, the frames were beautifully balanced, lightweight but solid, and plainly substantial to the touch and feel. The design is elegant, detailed, and cool in the classic sense. Not to suggest they make you cool, because objects can’t really do that; rather, the care with which they’re made suggests that you actually give a fuck about the quality of the things you put on your body, you care how they work, how they look, how they feel. And glasses are the rare accessory that performs an essential function—especially if, like me, your vision is declining. It’s easy to forget the time when objects were made well—when that was something you could expect, even demand. It cost more but you also got more, and it lasted longer. I’ve only had these a few days, but I’m hoping they last a good long while, because I’d hate to have to go back to the world of flimsy, fly-by-night specs.
