Playboi Carti Took Over ComplexCon in Vintage Gianfranco Ferré

ComplexCon turned 10 this year, and Playboi Carti did not just show up. He ran it. As co-artistic director alongside Hiroshi Fujiwara and Fragment, Carti shaped the look and feel of the festival's 2026 edition in Los Angeles on October 3 and 4, then closed it out with a Sunday headlining set that brought Ye to the stage.

Between the 00pium takeover, the stage design and the crowd that followed him across the floor, one detail stood out to us: the eyewear. Carti wore vintage Gianfranco Ferré.

The Frame

The pair is a rectangular Ferré in purple with gray lenses, cut with the strong lines and deep lenses that defined the house's eyewear in the 1990s and early 2000s. It is quiet compared to the logo-heavy frames that dominate festival season, and that is the point. It reads as a collector's choice, not a trend.

We have it in the archive: the Gianfranco Ferré GF65904, purple frame, gray lens, brand new deadstock. Never worn, and the exact pair pictured on our site is the pair you receive.

Why Ferré

Gianfranco Ferré trained as an architect before he ever designed clothes, and it shows in everything he touched. He was known as the architect of Italian fashion, and from 1989 to 1996 he served as artistic director of Christian Dior. His eyewear carried the same discipline: measured proportions, sharp construction and finishes that still look expensive decades later.

That is why his frames keep turning up on the people who set the tone. They are rare, they are recognizable to anyone who knows, and they do not look like anything sold new today.
